I came across an article today that really hit home seeing as many of my friends and I are of the age group talked about in this article.

A college in San Francisco, University of California Hastings College of Law, and one of it’s student organizations, the Christian Legal Society is being threatened by the College to no longer be recognized as an official student organization unless they stop discriminating for the CLS’ stance on “unrepentant participation in and advocacy of a sexually immoral lifestyle”. Now the case has made it’s way up to the U. S. Supreme Court and the future of Christian organizations on a college campus is weighing on this outcome.

The article brings up a great question, should colleges be allowed to remove a student bodies right to religious freedoms when they conflict with the colleges secular views and policies.

In this instance the Hastings College of Law, has a policy that is against discrimination on the bases of “race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age, sex or sexual orientation.”

So i want to hear our readers responses and opinions, read the full article and then post your reply here…

Are Christians allowed to be Christians in College?

This paragraph particularly stood out to me:

“Obviously, much is riding on this case. The same logic used against the Christian Legal Society in this case can be used to argue that any Christian organization, school, or institution no longer serves the community’s welfare if it holds such policies. How long before similar arguments are made against churches and Christian schools?”

We often pray our gratitude that we are free to meet and practice our faith while so many other Christians in other countries cannot, scary to think that may not be the case someday!

    Good Article Chris

First I just thought it was awesome to hear that there are actually Christian law students. I thought they were all just immoral, ambulance chasers……. Shows how much I know. God is working everywhere; even in the plaes we least expect

The main thing that I got out of this is that, it sounds like the begining of the end. The author of the article makes a good point when he asks; ” How long before similar arguments are made against churches and Christian schools?”

This is really true. How is this not gong to continue to waterfall into more and more of a public setting where Christians are not aloud to proclaim there beliefs without being persecuted for being “intolerant” of sin?

Anyway great article Chris. See you on wednesday

Great article Chris! Thanks for posting it. I watched the Hastings College case and thought it would be a slam dunk in favor of them… I was wrong…
